Helen Border, age 98, of Edinburg, formerly of Barclay, passed away June 24, 2026 in Taylorville, IL.

She was born October 13, 1927 near New Berlin, IL, the daughter of the late Leroy and Sophie Casson. Helen married Leonard Lawrence and they had two children, Gary Lawrence and Sandra (Lawrence) Sample. They divorced and Helen married Jim Border.

Over the years, Helen worked at Reichart’s Cafe, Montgomery Ward, Manpower, and she retired from the Department of Revenue. Helen enjoyed traveling, playing pinochle, making crafts, bird watching, and dancing.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Gary, husband, Jim, son-in-law, Jim Sample, and her six siblings.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Sandy) Sample of Edinburg; grandchildren, Trevor (Katie) Sample of Edinburg and Amie (David) Mouser of Bloomington; and great-grandchildren, Andrew & Camden Sample and Morgan & Brady Mouser.

Funeral services will be held on July 2, 2026 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 705 E. Menard St., Riverton, IL 62561. Visitation will be from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. and the service will begin at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
