Gilbert F. Deimel, Ed.D, 89, of Springfield, IL., passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, IL.
Gil was born on September 7, 1935, in Olney, IL, the son of Joseph and Rachel (Poland) Deimel. He married Evelyn Spitz on August 24, 1963. Gil received his Doctorate in Education from Indiana University and was an Educator for over 50 years. He was a member of Church of St. Jude in Rochester, Knights of Columbus, and was very active in their Lenten Fish Fry's. He was current Treasurer of the Land of Lincoln Retired Teachers Association. He enjoyed gardening, working outdoors and traveling.
Gil is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Evelyn; children, JR (Kirstin) Deimel, James Deimel and Christianna (Matthew) Vehlow; six grandchildren, Marcus, Michael, Max, Isaac, Jonathan and Isabella; siblings, Leo (Elizabeth) Deimel, Jean (Jim) Todd and Jane (Bruce) Butzler as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 28, from 5:00-7:00PM at Church of St Jude, 633 S. Walnut Street in Rochester. Additional visitation will be held on Saturday, March 1, from 9:00AM until the time of the Funeral Mass at 10:30, also at the church. Reverends Father Peter Chineke and Father R. Dean Probst will concelebrate with burial following at Rochester Cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to the Illinois Retired Teachers Association, Foundation or to Doctors without Borders.
Wilson Park Funeral Home in Rochester is in charge of arrangements.
