SPRINGFIELD, IL - George R. Boehner, 81, of Springfield, died Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at St. John's Hospital.
George was born July 17, 1933, in Springfield, the son of Charles Jacob and Bessie Esslinger Boehner. He married Dorothy Ewert; she preceded him in death on Jan. 22, 1992. He married Bobbie Stevenson Bown on July 1, 2002.
George was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He was an Illinois State Trooper for 30 years; he retired on Dec. 31, 1987. He later drove a school bus for Pleasant Plains CUD #8 for 20 years. He was a member of Ashland United Methodist Church and enjoyed woodworking, fishing, gardening, reading and playing cards.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and siblings.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Boehner of Springfield; one daughter, Laura (Kent) Keeney of Ashland; one son, Thomas Boehner of Kentucky; two grandchildren, Jacob W. and J. William Keeney, both of Ashland; two stepchildren, Maggie (Roger) Stevenson-Lair of Carbondale and Robert Stevenson of Springfield; two step-grandchildren, Aaron (Becky) Shown of Pleasant Plains and Jeremy (Casey) Hughes of Springfield; two step-great-grandchildren, Alli and Malari Shown of Pleasant Plains; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cremation will be accorded by Springfield Crematory.
Private graveside services will be held.
