LINCOLN, IL - Florence "Eileen" Short, 73, formerly of Springfield, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2015, at her residence.

Eileen was born on May 2, 1942, in Taylorville, the daughter of Curtis Gladstone and Ruth Venetta Ettinger Brookens.

Eileen was a graduate of Taylorville High School. She was a homemaker and an avid Bingo player. She had a great sense of humor and love spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Charles Brookens.

She is survived by one son, John (Diana) Short of Lincoln; one daughter, Tara Wolcott of Springfield; three siblings, Kenneth Brookens, Patricia McLees and Samuel Brookens, all of Independence, Mo.; three grandchildren, Kyle Cottingham, Kenna Schafer and Brianna Eads; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 4, 2015, at Mound Chapel Cemetery in Johnson Township in Christian County.
