Evelyn Agnes (Roesch) Conboy, 93, of Rochester, Illinois, passed away June 26, 2025 at the Carriages of Rochester in Rochester, IL.
Born January 21, 1932, in Loami, Illinois, to Edward B. and Agnes F. (Walsh) Roesch, Evelyn was a graduate of New Berlin High School. She married William M. Conboy, and together they built a rich life on the farm while raising seven children.
Evelyn was a dedicated farming partner and homemaker, playing an essential role in the success of the family farm while raising seven children with unwavering devotion. After the passing of her husband in 1978, she became a beloved school bus driver, known affectionately as "Grandma" to many local children, including her own grandchildren. She later worked at Montgomery Ward, where she retired as a respected retail associate.
A long-time member of the Church of St. Jude in Rochester, Evelyn was a founding parishioner and active in many church committees. She was also a proud member of the Red Hat Society, Sangamon County Home Extension, the A & E Breakfast Club, a docent with the Rochester Historical Society, and a Lady Knight of the Knights of Columbus.
Evelyn was known for her love of cooking, traveling, and bringing people together. Her generous spirit, quiet strength, and steady presence were a blessing to all who knew her. She lived her life in service to her family and community, always willing to lend a hand or offer a warm meal.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William M. Conboy; her parents; siblings Edward, Audrey, Richard, Donald, and Mary (Roesch) Huddelston; and her granddaughter Alexa Layne Conboy.
She is survived by her children: Denise (Michael) Upchurch of Texas; Diane (Joel) Messmore and Dorinda "Rindie" (Mark) Jeffers of Rochester; Patricia Daiker of Texas, Pamela Wiese of Texas; Michael Conboy (Sue McGlasson) of Chatham; and Mark (Ilana) Conboy of Texas. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, her brother James (Gloria) Roesch of Springfield, sister-in-law Shirley Roesch of Chatham, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was a resident of Rochester for 69 years and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Visitation and funeral services will be held on August 11th, 2025, at the Church of St. Jude in Rochester. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Joel Hall Cemetery in Athens, Illinois, at 2:30 p.m. Arrangements are under the care of Park Funeral Homes.
