Evelyn M. Elston

ROCHESTER, IL - Evelyn M. Elston, 93, passed away on Sunday, Feb.23, 2014, at St. John's Hospice.

She was born March 18, 1920, in Springfield, Ill., to Carl and Dora (Smith) Lovejoy. She married Joseph Elston in Rochester on Sept. 4, 1945. He preceded her in death in 2008. She also was preceded in death by a son, Samuel, and son-in-law, James F. Wallace.

She is survived by her daughter, Helen M. Wallace (companion, Richard J. Fanning), of Springfield, Ill., two sons, Davey Joe Elston, Sr., (Phyllis), of Divernon, Ill., and Donald A. Elston, Sr., of Middleton, Texas. Also surviving are twelve grandchildren, including her two special granddaughters, Debbie Elston, of Mechanicsburg, Ill., and Jennie Girup, of Mt. Auburn, Ill., several great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter.

She lived in Rochester all of her life and she was a member of South Fork Church of Christ. Joe and Evelyn operated Joe Elston Farm Machinery in Berry, Ill., for several years and retired in 1986.

Evelyn enjoyed quilting, many needle crafts, and cooking (best beef & noodles ever) for her family. She had many happy times with family and the friends that she and Joe made through the years.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 26, at Wilson Park Funeral Home in Rochester.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2014, at the funeral home with Reverend Allen Miller officiating. Burial will follow in Rochester Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Hospice or the Animal Protective League.
