Eric Matthew Welch (50 years old) was born June 10, 1972 in Springfield, Illinois. He died February 19, 2023, St. John's Hospital, Springfield. Eric attended Lanphier High School and graduated in 1990 (Sports:  Wrestling and Football). He had an A.A. Philosophy from Lincoln Land Community College and a B.A. Political Science from University Of Illinois Springfield. He is survived by his Mother, Brenda J. Winters, Springfield, Father, Ralph (Jean) Welch, Chatham, Brother, Daniel A. (Corrie Taylor, fiance) Welch, Springfield, Uncle, Bryan R. Ferguson, Phoenix, AZ, Uncles Ron (Linda) Welch, Springfield, Jerald (Geri) Welch, Tucson, Aunt Pam (Rick) Williams, Springfield. Cousins include Celeste M. Simmons, New Orleans, LA, David Bottema, Los Angeles, Jenn Welch, Jeremy Welch, Melissa (Derek) Brawner, Springfield Jason (Becky) Williams, Cantrall, Niece, Charlotte A. Welch and Nephew, Caleb J. Welch, Springfield, IL.

Eric absolutely loved music with all of his heart. He enjoyed hosting Monday open mics at Floyd's for a number of years. He played in numerous bands including Cocked and Loaded. He was the founder and executive director of SoHo music Festival for several years. He loved playing his guitar on his porch. He loved the Chicago Cubs. And he was especially fond and proud of his niece Charlotte and nephew Caleb. Eric had an infectious smile and always gave the biggest and best hugs. He would give you his last dollar if you needed it. Eric was a friend to all and a stranger to no one.

The family thanks all of you for the many kinds words and remembrances of Eric and to St. John's Hospital for their excellent care. Keep a song in your heart and think of him often. A Celebration of Life will be held later in the year.
