Douglas Joel Nevitt, 72, of Springfield, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2016 at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.
Douglas was born on December 16, 1943 in Springfield the son of Perc and Dorothea Foster Nevitt.
He was a graduate of Lanphier High School and worked as a Springfield Firefighter for over 20 years. He was a member of the Springfield Firefighters Local 37 and the NRA. Douglas was a very artistic man and a naturalist. He loved hunting, fishing, canoeing and kayaking. He was a woodworker and could make most anything, he even built his own home. He had a passion for motorcycles and enjoyed shopping at retail stores coming back and being able to say "I got it for one dollar".
He is survived by three children, Douglas J. Nevitt II of Shelby, NC, Lisa (Jerry) Guinn-Kline of Springfield and Lori A. (companion, Norman Flanders) Roy of Indian Trail, NC; six grandchildren, Brittney and Brandon Roy, Johnny (Jessica) and Madison Guinn, Olivia (Patrick) Nevitt-Eckard and Douglas Nevitt III; five great grandchildren; best friend, Daniel VonLanken; and ex-wives, Judith Nevitt and Adelle Nevitt.
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home with Reverend Dr. Mark Estrop officiating. The Honor Guard for the fire department will post guard from 2-3:30 p.m. Cremation will follow services.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Springfield Firefighters Local 37 for their 12 Days of Christmas Charity Fundraiser.
