SPRINGFIELD, IL - Dorothy "DeDe" Thein, of Springfield, passed away of natural causes on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015, at her residence, surrounded by family.
Born Nov. 15, 1922, in Springfield, to Jesse and Maggie Funderburk, she grew up on the farm in Cottonhill Township, Ill. She married Roy K. Thein on June 7, 1941, and he preceded her in death on April 23, 1976.
She is survived by two daughters, Sharon (Max) Strasbaugh of Springfield and Patricia Marconi of Pawnee; one son, James (Marissa) Thein of Arlington, Va.; six grandchildren: Sheri (Randall) Dyer of Elkridge, Md., Paul (Alyssa) Marconi of Chatham, Greg Marconi of Pawnee, Tyler Thein of San Diego, Calif., Travis Thein and Emilia Thein, both of Arlington, Va.; six great grandchildren: Avery, Ashley and Ella Dyer, and Tyler, Landon, and Keaton Marconi; and two nieces, one nephew and several cousins.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Shirley Jean Thein; and sister, Marian Haines Marshall.
Following private graveside services at Zion Cemetery on Saturday, Oct. 3, 2015, with the Rev. Mike Whitaker of First United Methodist Church officiating, the family would like to invite friends to attend a Celebration of Life Reception from 2:30 - 5:00 p.m. at Panther Creek Country Club.
