Dorothy J. Mackey, 82, of Springfield, IL, passed away Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.

She was born April, 8, 1934 in Laurel, MS, the daughter of Roy and Lois Slaughter. On Nov, 24, 1956, Dorothy was married to her husband of 60 years, William E. Mackey by Dr. Sever in Mobile, AL.

She was a 1st grade teacher, and a winner of the Golden Apple Award for being an excellent teacher. She received her Master's Degree in Education. She also attended Blue Mountain College in Mississippi. Dorothy enjoyed singing, playing the piano, and painting and was a great seamstress. She enjoyed making clothes and even made her own wedding dress.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, William; one son Brad (Mary) Mackey; two granddaughters Kali and Elysia Mackey; One sister Dr. Janelle (Dr. Bill) Dodson, and four nieces Karen Ladd, Tammy Morehead, Donna Brown and Brenda Pike.

Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Centralia City Cemetery, Centralia MO.
