Obituary

I am Donald Lee Ivy and apparently I have passed away. I was born August 8, 1937, and I lived until I died on September 20, 2015.

I left behind the love of my life, Deborah (Brown) Ivy, and for that I am so sorry. I wanted to stay with her but she was afraid the smell of a dead body would get to be too bad. My parents, Elbert and Anne Lois (Williams) Ivy, went on ahead of me, or maybe they ran away from me, one of the two. I had a sister, Patricia, and she and her husband, Milburn Holly, also left this earth too soon, ahead of me.

I have many memories from my childhood, like the time I painted the seat of my grandfather's tractor while he was eating his lunch. I got my seat warmed for that one, let me tell you. I remember childhood friends such as Doyle McAndrews and the rest of the McAndrews clan, and Kenny Osbourne and George Blazy. There were so many friends I cannot remember them all. But let me tell you what, we had fun. We swam in the lakes of Michigan, went fishing, hunting and water skiing and boating, all kinds of fun things. Well, except for school.

After high school I moved to Chicago and worked at Western Electric for 15 years. Then I moved to Texas. Got a job for Caterpillar right away and worked there 5 years. Then, when all the caterpillars turned to butterflies, I moved to Houston with family and then on to Illinois. Where I met my lovely wife. We were together more than 30 years and I cherished every moment. Together we have several nieces and nephews that we both love so very much. I love you and will keep an eye on you. You know where I will be, down at the best fishin' hole with my Peanut beside me.

A Celebration of Life will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, September 24, 2015, at Nichols Park in Jacksonville. Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home, 530 N. Fifth St., Springfield, IL 62702 is in charge of arrangements. Visit our online obituary at www.ellingerkunzfuneralhome.com.
