Donald Lee Bacon

SHERMAN, IL - Donald Lee Bacon, 81, of Sherman, died Friday, July 24, 2015, at Villa Health Care East.

Donald was born June 10, 1934, in Springfield, the son of Herman and Marie Reichert Bacon.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. In the early 1970s, he was Chief Fiscal Control Officer for the State of Illinois. He later served as Deputy Comptroller until retirement. He was a member of St. Katherine Drexel Parish. He enjoyed cats, researching family history, and visiting Chicago.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Marie Bacon, and an infant brother, James Bacon.

He is survived by one sister, Norma (Jerry) Moore of Springfield; one nephew, Stephen (Brenda) Rappe of Indiana; one niece, Teresa Rappe of Springfield; two great-nieces, Amanda and Jamie (Justin); two great-nephews, Joseph (Alicia) and Drew; and three great-great-nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at noon on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. James Isaacson officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
