Dick E. Snyder, 91, of Springfield, passed away peacefully at River Birch Assisted Living on Friday, June 9, 2023.
Dick was born on February 8, 1932, in Decatur, the son of Otis E. and M. Pearl (Murray) Snyder. He married Barbara A. Brown on March 17, 1956, in Norfolk, Virginia, she preceded him in death on November 30, 1990.
Dick started working when he was very young delivering papers; he worked at Homeier's Dairy and the Toddle House through high school. He worked as a mechanist and shipper/processor at Allis-Chalmers (Fiat Allis) until the plant closed. He then worked at Double J Campground in Glenarm for almost 20 years and went on to work as an assembler at Walmart for almost 15 years.
Dick served in the US Navy during the Korean War on destroyers including the USS Cushing (DD-797). He worked as a machinist mate in the engine room and took several round the world tours.
Surviving is his daughter, Terri Branham of Riverton; son, Rodney (wife, Ederlina) Snyder of Riverton; grandchildren, Erica (husband Steven) Metzger; Brody (wife Amanda) Snyder; Sister, Pearl (husband Marvin) Fuller; Sister-in-Law, Donna Brown.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, Velma M. Snyder, brother, Joe E. Snyder, son-in-law Jeffery R. Branham and brother-in-law Richard A. Brown.
Dick was lover of everything red and could usually be found in a red shirt. He loved red cars and red motorcycles, especially his 1959 Corvette and 1954 Harley Davidson. Dick could repair or fix anything. He built his own home that he owned over 60 years. He was always there to help his kids, grandkids and anyone else that needed help with fixes or repairs.
No service will be held. The family is planning a special memory day at the Back the Blue car show at the Field of Dreams in Riverton on July 29, 2023.
In lieu of donations have a cup of coffee and a Mel-O-Cream donut or an ice cream sundae in his honor.
Ellinger-Kunz and Park Funeral Home is in charge of cremation rights.
