Dewain Leon Hilliard, 86, of Springfield, IL passed away on Friday, October 11, 2024.

Dewain was born in Torch, MO on April 17, 1938 the son of Samuel L. Hilliard and Letha (Short) Hilliard.

Dewain enlisted in the United States Air Force from May 1955 to January 1959. He married Mavis Kirby on September 11, 1968 in Mitchell, SD and she preceded him in death in 1995. Dewain was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals Fan and loving father and husband. He worked for the National Weather Service for forty plus years.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife; as well as; brothers, Ralph Hilliard, Howard Hilliard, Glenn Hilliard, Harold Hilliard; sisters, Verna Lloyd and Wanda Hilliard. Dewain is survived by his son, Dewain "Tim" Hilliard (Vicki) of Lincoln, IL; step-sons, John Walker of Phoenix, AZ, Burt Walker of Springfield, IL, and Brad Walker (Summer) of Dallas, TX; sister, Ollie Faye White of Sikeston, MO; as well as several grandchildren and extended family members.

Visitation will be held at Ellinger-Kunz and Park Funeral Home, 530 North 5th St. Springfield, IL 62702 on Tuesday October 22, 2024 from 11:30 am till 12:30 pm. Following the visitation Military Honors will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery where Dewain will be laid to rest.
