Darren M. Best, 57, of Springfield, IL passed away on Saturday February 18, 2023.

Darren was born in Springfield on December 6, 1965 and is the son of Herman and Judy (Nicholas) Best. He graduated from Lanphier High School in 1983 and pursued his passion in the Culinary Arts for the rest of his life.  He held positions with various hotels and restaurants in Springfield and attended the Culinary Institute of America in New York City. He became the Executive Chef for Sangamon State University, later UIS.

Darren was also well known for his skill as an Ice Sculptor. He was also President of the Local Chef's Association in Springfield for a time. He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved music and fireworks on the 4TH of July. In past years, he has enjoyed watching his grandson, Trey, ride dirt-bikes and teaching him how to cook.

Darren was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.

He is survived by his mother, Judy (partner, Rob Lomelino); son, Darren Jr (partner, Destiny); grandson, Trey; sister, Monica Romang (husband, Joe); brother, Stephen Nicholas (partner, Debbie); as well as a large extended family.

Cremation Services will be accorded.

A visitation will be held on Thursday February 23, 2023 at Ellinger-Kunz and Park Funeral Home, 530 North 5th St. Springfield, IL 62702 from 4pm – 6pm. A Memorial Service will follow the visitation and Pastor Calvin Miller will be officiating.
