Cheryl Renita Carr, 57, of Springfield, passed away on Sunday, January 22, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center.

Cheryl was born on September 19, 1959 in Centralia, IL the daughter of Walter and Geraldine Woodard Carr, Jr.

She was a homemaker but had also worked for Horace Mann Insurance Company and McClernand Elementary School.  She enjoyed sewing, reading, fishing, and new experiences.  She loved spending time with her grandchildren and was very good with them.  She was of the Jehovah's Witness faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter; special uncle, O. J. Buford; her Aunt, Lilly Jo Garrett who was like a mother to her; and a cousin, Kay Carr.

She is survived by three daughters, Ta-Tanasha Carr of Springfield, Shalonda Carr of Urbana and Cheryl Carr of Springfield; longtime companion, Herbert Washington, Sr. of Springfield; three brothers, Walter Carr III, Michael Carr and Tharwin Carr; two sisters, Rolanda Carr and Justina Carr; nine grandchildren; several aunts, including special aunt, Christine Buford, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, including two cousins who were like brothers to her, Derrick Carr and Kelly Garrett.

She was a fighter to the end.

Cremation will be accorded and private family services will be at a later date.
