Obituary

SPRINGFIELD, IL - Charles "Charlie" Richard Skeeters, 85, of Springfield passed away on Friday, Sept.18, 2015, at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born Dec. 3, 1929, in Springfield, the son of Joseph Edward and Grace Rosalie Whitcomb Skeeters. He married Laura June Kelley in June of 1951. They have been married for 64 years.

Charlie was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War. He worked for Matthews Transfer Company where he was a driver for many years. He retired from the State of Illinois after 10 years. He was a member of Elm Street Christian Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Donna Marie Skeeters; seven brothers; and four sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Skeeters of Springfield; three children: Vicki Jo (David) Wilson, Richard (Linda) Skeeters and Susan (Stephen) Woodward all of Springfield; two brothers, James (Jose) Skeeters and Gary Skeeters; one sister, Judy (Anton) Butchek; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015, at Elm Street Christian Church with Pastor John Sears officiating.

Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail will conduct honors.
