Charles L. Sexton, 88, of Mechanicsburg, passed away peacefully at 10:52 PM on February 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family, with hospice confirming his passing at 12:23AM on February 2, 2025. Charles was born in Dawson, IL. on July 17, 1936, the son of Homer C. and Eva (Skinner) Sexton. He married Dorothy I. Smith on November 24, 1961 at the Mechanicsburg Christian Church in Mechanicsburg, IL. Dorothy proceeded him in death on May 13, 2022.
Charles enlisted and served 3 years and 10 months in the United States Air Force and was discharged with the rank of A/1C. He was stationed at Forbes Air Force Base, Topeka, KS. with TDY's to Eilson Air Force Base in Alaska and Goose Bay Air Force Base in Labrador. Charles was a member of Carlock Lodge #904 A.F and A.M of Mechanicsburg and served on the board of trustees for the village of Mechanicsburg. He retired from the Office of Secretary State, State of Illinois on December 31, 1997.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; two brothers, Forrest W. "Mike" Sexton, Homer C. Sexton, Jr.; two sisters V. Lorraine Sexton and A. Jean Colin.
Charles is survived by his son; Glen (Sally) Sexton; and daughter, Gitana (Todd) Fishburn; grandchildren, Natalie and Elizabeth Sexton, and Lathe (Ashley), Brock (Megan) and Grace Fishburn; great grandchildren, Adalynn, Conrad and Benjamin Fishburn, and one on the way; brother in law Darrell (Delores) Smith, and many nieces and nephews.
Rev. Bob Twist of the Buffalo Christian Church will conduct the private family services and Charles will be buried at Mechanicsburg Cemetery.
Fullenwider-Park Funeral Home in Mechanicsburg is in charge of arrangements.
