SPRINGFIELD, IL - Betty Ann Kovalik, 91, of Springfield, passed away Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at St. John's Hospital.

She was born Nov. 23, 1924, the daughter of Andrew and Adena Lunik. She married John P. Kovalik on Aug. 12, 1944, in Springfield; he preceded her in death on March 12, 1995.

Betty is survived by her son, James (Sandy) Kovalik of Bartonville, Ill.; daughter, Diane (Russ) Lessly; and grandson, Adam Lessly of O'Fallon, Mo.

Although Betty's home was in Springfield, her husband's military career took them to live in many states across the country including California, Mississippi, and Pennsylvania. They were also stationed in Korea, Taiwan, and Germany.

All during this time, Betty remained very committed to her faith and was active in many church affairs. In Springfield, she taught Sunday school and was a committee member for Vacation Bible School. She helped prepare programs for Sunday services. More recently, she taught reading skills for students at the church's school.

Betty was known for her excellent sewing skills, especially in cross-stitching. She was a wonderful cook and homemaker. Her laugh was especially infectious to others.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016, at Concordia Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. James Hennig officiating.

Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
