MECHANICSBURG, IL - Barbara Ellen Van Pelt, 78, passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2013, at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield. She was born November 4, 1935, in Lanesville, the daughter of Delmer and Pearl (Castleman) Rogers. Barbara married Robert C. Van Pelt on June 25, 1955, and he preceded her in death February 28, 2007. She was a member of the Mechanicsburg Christian Church, Mechanicsburg Woman's Civic Club, and retired after thirty-five years with the State Treasurer's Office, State of Illinois.

She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Raymond and James Rogers, and her sisters, infant Patricia Rogers and Betty Marvin. Survived by her son, Robert Carl (Tami) Van Pelt, Jr., of Mechanicsburg and daughter, Sue Ellen (Chuck) McMillian of Williamsville; four grandchildren, Jon Carl (Kim) Van Pelt, Loren Bradley (Angelina) Van Pelt, Blake Douglas (Dena) Van Pelt, Sarah Danielle McMillian; seven great- grandchildren; a sister, Ruby Barnard of Blanco, Texas, two brothers, Howard Rogers of Mechanicsburg and Delmer Rogers of Libertyville; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Friday, December 27, from 4-7 p.m. at the Fullenwider-Park Funeral Home in Mechanicsburg. Funeral Services will be on Saturday, December 28 at 10 a.m. at the Mechanicsburg Christian Church. Reverend Shane Hartman will be officiating with burial in the Mechanicsburg Cemetery.
