Arthur W. "Art" Gowin, 87, of Springfield, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024 at The Villas in Sherman, IL. Art was born in Springfield on March 2, 1936, the son of Karl and Artie (Easley) Gowin. He married Janet Aures on May 24, 1958 and was a lifelong resident of rural areas east of Springfield.

During Art's career as a lifelong plumber, he started and operated A. W. Gowin Plumbing & Heating, Inc. for 20 years. In retirement, Art kept busy at home and enjoyed his dogs, most recently, Momma and Sonoma, rescues from the APL.

He was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 137, a member of the former Mechanicsburg United Methodist Church and Art served his country in the Air National Guard 183 Fighter Wing out of Springfield, IL.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Gregory Lee Gowin; and brother Ernest Gowin.

Art is survived by his wife, Janet; daughter, Lori (Keith) Flaminio; daughter in law, Nicci Gowin; sisters, Patricia Dennison and Louise Schneider; brother, Edward Gowin; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 31, from 10:30AM until the time of the memorial service at 12:30PM at Wilson Park Funeral Home, 200 E. Main St. in Rochester. Burial will follow at Mechanicsburg Cemetery.  Rev. Dan Dexter will officiate the service and burial.

In lieu of flowers and plants, the family requests memorial donations to be made to Mechanicsburg Cemetery Association or to the Animal Protective League.
