Hintzman

ROCHESTER, IL - Arthur J. Hintzman, 89, passed away June 7, 2014. He was a 33-year resident of Rochester, Ill. Arthur was born in Monroe, Wisc., and grew up in Brodhead, Wisc., where he graduated from Brodhead High School. He then served in the United States Army from 1943-1946. Arthur received both bachelor's and master's degrees in Agricultural Economics from the University of Wisconsin. He then worked as a statistician for the National Agricultural Statistics Service, U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, in various locations, including Washington, D.C., until his retirement in 1980.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Roe Brobst Hintzman; brother, William C. Hintzman; and sister, Lela F. Stone.

Left to carry on his memory is his loving wife of 64 years, Mary A. Hintzman; two sons, David (Henderson, Nev.) and Doug (Nederland, Colo.), two daughters, Catherine Corley (New York City) and Christine Owens (Fishers, Ind.); two grandchildren, Macy and Zane Hintzman; and three nephews, a niece and their children.

Arthur was a kind, compassionate and hard-working man and lived his life as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed many pursuits over the years including owning a Morgan horse and restoring an antique buggy, fruit and vegetable gardening, woodworking and all types of home improvement projects. He fondly remembered his farm background and small hometown and loved to share stories about his early life. His children appreciate the values he passed on to them and how he demonstrated strength and perseverance when faced with adversity. He was a 30-year member of the Rochester Lions Club and a longtime member of Rochester United Methodist Church to which he gave many hours of service.

Visitation will be Friday, June 13, 2014, from 10-11 a.m. with a memorial service immediately after at Rochester United Methodist Church, 555 S. Walnut St., Rochester, IL. Cremation will follow with inurnment in Greenwood Cemetery, Brodhead, Wisc., at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross and Salvation Army.
