ILLIOPOLIS, IL - Alvin Edward Wilson, 86, of Illiopolis, died Tuesday, April 28, 2015, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Ill.
He was born Sept. 7, 1928, in Illiopolis, the son of Alvin L. and Elizabeth E. (Mayer) Wilson. He married Joan Landers on April 28, 1951, in Berlin, N.H.
Alvin was a retired carpenter. He was a Korean War era veteran. He was a member of the Illiopolis United Methodist Church. He was a 50 year member of American Legion Post 508, former member of the Illiopolis Lion's Club, VFW Post 10302, Riverside Cemetery Board, Prairie State Model T Club and the Illiopolis United Methodist Church Board of Trustees.
He is survived by a daughter, Joan Ballenger of N.C.; sons, Edward (Dee) Wilson of Belleville and Maurice (Cindy) Wilson of Illiopolis; seven grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; brother, Harry (Bev) Wilson of Sweetwater; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Kenneth Wilson; son-in-law, Larry Ballenger; four brothers: Richard, Thomas, John and James; and one sister, Evalina.
Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, at Illiopolis United Methodist Church. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m., at the church, with the Rev. C.W. Reneker presiding. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Illiopolis.
