It was 1922.
My maternal Grandmother gave birth to her third child, a son, and later that same week her husband (my Grandfather) was killed in a farming related fire.
By the grace of God, a lot of hard work, and a supportive, loving family, the young widow managed to raise her family, survive the Great Depression, and keep both her faith and the family farm.
The son grew up and continued to live on and farm that same land for 90+ years.
This week he has gone home to heaven, officially retiring from farming.
He modeled a life of loyalty, hard work, and faithfulnes and was a beloved and respected son, nephew, brother, cousin, husband, father, uncle, great uncle, Godfather, and grandfather. He cared for his family and provided TLC in their time of need and did so with grace.
Today I can only imagine the happy reunion he is having with Jesus and his family that went on before, and I celebrate his life.
I am grateful for the life of this special man and for the legacy of loving care he received from his family.
