Isaah "Sonny" Washington

Isaah “Sonny” Washington was born on November 10th, 1941 in Humphreys Mississippi the son of Fred Lee Washington and Rilda Mae (Melton) Robinson. His parents preceded him in death. He was an only child.

Isaah was affectionately called Sonny by everyone. He moved to Springfield from Minneapolis Minnesota in 1997. He remained here until his passing.

Isaah was a proud and dutiful employee of the Chicago Transit Authority as a bus operator.

He believed that if a man does not work, he does not eat. Isaiah loved his family. He made sure he touched basis with his children and had a very special relationship with each of them.  

Isaah was an astute observer of human nature. He enjoyed being around people and watching old classic westerns and karate movies. Failing health made it more difficult for him to get around, nevertheless he maintained a lively interest in his family and friends. He was very funny and would keep you laughing.

He leaves behind to cherish fond memories 4 daughters, Mary Ann Cutler, Rose Washington, Elizabeth Washington (Will Olden) of Springfield IL, Lorie Washington of St. Paul Minnesota; 3 sons, Isaiah Cutler, Isaiah Washington Jr. of Springfield IL, and Mark Watkins of Chicago IL.

He also raised 4 children as his own; Charmaine Coleman, Annie Harris, Eric Cutler Sr., and Mike D.

Isaah has 35 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and a host of cousins, relatives and friends. Isaiah had a loving companion who stayed committed to him until his passing, Debra “Dee” Hodges.

Isaah departed this life on October 12th, 2019. Taken, all in all, he was a GOOD MAN and we shall not look upon his like again.

He will be greatly missed.

There will be a visitation at Ellinger-Kunz and Park Funeral Home in Springfield IL on Friday October 25, 2019 from 2pm to 3pm. A funeral ceremony will be conducted at 3pm by Minster “Chris Jackson” and cremation will be accorded afterword.
