David Charles Yvonne Burgett

David Charles Yvonne Burgett, 54 of Pleasant Plains passed away on December 10, 2018 at Memorial Medical Center.

David was born on May 24, 1964 in Des Moines IA, to his father Yvonne Thomas and Beverly Brown Burgett.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his children Jillian Burgett, LaVonna Burgett, Matthew Nazari, Jayanna Burgett, and John Burgett. His siblings Denise (Lon) Lewis, Dorn (Yvonne) DeRaad, Roylene (Craig) Shepley, and Rich Burgett as well as many nieces and nephews. Also survived by the mother of his children Amy Burgett and dogs Duke and George.

David graduated from Western Illinois University, he played football and graduated with a bachelors in law enforcement and a bachelors in special education. David was a special education teacher for 22 years at Douglas Alternative School, as well a football and wrestling coach at Springfield High school. He had a strong passion for guiding and teaching youth, he was an enthusiastic outdoors man, and a skilled carpenter. David was a loving and dedicated father, he was a kind and giving mentor, and wonderful friend to everyone he knew. David spent many hours in the gym where he enjoyed weightlifting with the “peppermint gang”.  He will be remembered by many as a big man with an even bigger heart. David was always willing to go above and beyond to care, council, and comfort others. He will be missed by many whose hearts and minds he touched.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home.  Cremation will follow.
