Cinda Peters Obituary

Cinda Kay Peters, 72, of rural Illiopolis, passed away peacefully on August 17th, 2019 at HSHS St. Johns Hospital, Springfield, IL with family at her side.  Cinda touched so many lives with her sweet smile, joy, positive attitude, kindness, class and grace.   She was a stylish, beautiful lady, full of faith and goodness.  She shared her unconditional love, truly knew the value of family and friends, and in turn, everyone thought so highly of her.  Throughout her life, she was strong and independent and understood that, “Every Day is a Gift”.  Cinda was an angel, chosen too early by our Lord to come live in his garden.  We were blessed to have her in our lives.  She will be dearly missed.

Cinda was born at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes, IN on March 10, 1947 to Donald Lee VanGilder and Edith Alene (Hockman) VanGilder of rural Flat Rock, IL.  She leaves to cherish fond memories, one sister, Linda Nogle and husband, Ron of Palatine, IL; ex-husband and lifelong friend, Larry Peters of Springfield, IL; two sister-in-laws, Elaine Clark and husband Drew of Erie, CO and Ann Worthington and husband Tony of Holland, WI; daughter, Donna Lee Campbell and husband Wes of Illiopolis, IL and two sons, Thaddeus Scott Peters and wife Tonya of Illiopolis, IL;  Clint Wesley Peters and wife Jennifer of Oro Valley, AZ; grandchildren, Ashlee Ingersoll of Illiopolis, IL, Claire, Joseph & Caroline Peters of Illiopolis, IL, Levi & Lynnden Peters of Oro Valley, AZ; bonus grandchildren Kristen Campbell-Bontrager of Decatur, IL, Ashley Mikola-Campbell & Robbie Campbell of Illiopolis, IL; granddogs Mini, Abe & Ellie and several nieces, nephews, cousins and great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents and in-laws, Raymond and Anna Ruth Peters of Illiopolis, IL.

Cinda attended Lawrenceville Township High School, graduating with the Class of 1965 and graduated from Vincennes University & Indiana State University.  She met her husband, Larry Peters, when he worked for her parents’ cattle operation, VanGilder Polled Herefords.  After they wed, Larry and Cinda resided on their farm in rural Illiopolis for 25 years as grain and livestock farmers, raising purebred Polled Hereford cattle.  Larry & Cinda, owners of County Line Farms, were recognized nationwide as one of the top breeders in the country.  She & Larry were Advisors for the Illinois Jr. Polled Hereford Association and Secretary-Treasurer of the Illinois Polled Hereford Association.

Cinda retired from St. Mary’s hospital in Decatur, IL after working 30 years as a medical technologist.  She was very creative, loved decorating her home, knitting, painting & creating personalized gifts for her family to treasure, antiquing and going to flea markets, shopping and flower gardening.  She loved being outdoors in the country and, in her younger years, Cinda could be found, on the farm where she grew up, spending time with her Daddy, horseback riding on her horse, Dixie, spending time on the playing in the barns & “little house”, showing cattle in 4-H, mushroom hunting in the woods and swimming at the local gravel pits.  Her love for swimming continued as she vacationed with family on the ocean beaches of Hawaii, Ocean City, MD, Captiva Island, FL & Gulf Shores, AL.  Cinda, her sister Linda and their mother Alene enjoyed girl time together shopping, traveling and spending time together in Galena, IL, Brown County, IN and French Lick, IN…people frequently mistook them to be three sisters.  Cinda was a member of the Illiopolis Christian Church, the Kitchen Band Chics and the Illio Gals.  Besides her many interests, she assisted with the bookkeeping and day-to-day operations of the farm, as well as lovingly meeting her family’s needs, especially caring for her mother in her later years.

A memorial service to celebrate Cinda’s life will be held August 22nd, 2019 at 5:00 p.m. at the Illiopolis Christian Church in Illiopolis, IL.  Family will receive friends 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., preceding the service.  A headstone will be placed at Riverside Cemetery in Illiopolis, IL at a later date to honor & remember Cinda.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Illiopolis Christian Church, Susan G. Komen Memorial or Prairie Heart Foundation.  Condolences may be shared at www.parkfuneralhomesinc.com.
