Charles E. Hurst Sr.

April 21, 1933 ~ November 7, 2017 (age 84) 84 Years Old

Our dad, Charles E. Hurst Sr., 84 of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at home surrounded by family.

He was born April 21, 1933 to Charles H. Hurst and Doris S. Hurst of Greenview, Illinois.  He was married to Louise Lowe, whom proceeded him in death in 2005. Was companion to Barbara Smith Quade for several years (deceased).

He is survived by his sisters, Kathryn Clutts of Petersburg, Betty Dunlap of Bellville, Deloris Parrot of Lincoln, Sharon Pfeifer( husband Michael)  of Cantrall, Shirley ( husband James ) of Delevan and Lois Mooney-Swigart of Burlington Iowa.

He is also survived by his children, Dale Hurst (wife Gena), Darrell Hurst (wife Terese), Chuck Hurst (wife Pam) and Shawna Russell (husband Michael).  He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. 

He graduated from Middletown Community High School (salutatorian of his class), Springfield College (member of and President of Phi Theta Kappa National Junior College Honor Fraternity) and graduated from School of Banking, University of Wisconsin.

Proudly served in the National Guard 1950-1951 and the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955 during the Korean War, achieving the rank of Quartermaster Second Class aboard the U.S.S. Florikan. 

He was a member of A.A.S.R. Masonic Jurisdiction USA, and a member of Ancient Free and Accepted Mason of Illinois St. Paul's Lodge #0500 since 1968.  He was also a member of American Legion Post #32, Valley of Springfield Ansar Shrine and charter member of Springfield Capital City Shrine Club and a life member of Northenders Post 10302.                                                                                                                                                                      

He spent his career in Commercial, State and Federal Banking, Savings and Loan Supervision and Corporate Management. He was especially proud of holding Vice President and various titles at the Land of Lincoln Bank, Springfield Illinois 1968 to 1987.

Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. until the time of the funeral services at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 10, 2017 at Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home with Reverend Larry Hanson officiating.  Private graveside services will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.

Don’t cry for me, be happy for me.  Accept Christ as your savior and happy you’ll be!  May God bless you all.  He will always be loved and truly missed.
