Barbara E. Pope

Barbara E. Pope, 76, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at St. John’s Hospital.

Barbara was born on May 11, 1942 in Sycamore, IL the daughter of Willard H. and Florence Stivers Phipps.  She married Charles Pope on July 23, 1961 and they had been married for 57 years.

Barbara was a graduate of Pana High School.  She retired after many years at Sears warehouse and Walgreens.  She loved dancing, watching crime drama, reading, and most of all spending time with family. She and Charlie would often meet for dinner with a special circle of friends.  

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Hazel Frailey and Darleen Edwards; brother, W. Wayne Phipps; and nephews, David W. Phipps and Nicholas D. Leach.

She is survived by her husband, Charles; children; Charles (Marla Quimby) Pope II of Gower, MO and Dana (Harold) Rutherford of Riverton; four grandchildren, Zareth Wilson, India Pope, Joran Pope, all of Missouri, and Mike Rutherford of Springfield; one great-grandchild, Bjorn Rutherford of Springfield; sisters, Peg Waddington of Nebraska, Ronda (Leroy) Leach of Pana; brother, Dennis Phipps of Girard; sister-in-law, Jerrie Flowers of Georgia; numerous nieces and nephews; and brunch buddy, Sharon Crawford.

Cremation was accorded.  No services are scheduled at this time.
