Paul Matthew Duffey, of Divernon, Illinois, passed away on April 1, 2020 at St. John’s Hospital.
A graveside service will be held at 10am on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at Old Salem Cemetery on Old Salem Lane in Springfield, IL.
Paul “Tim” Matthew Duffey, son of the late Edward and Irene Duffey and stepson of the late Curtis Bolin was born January 26, 1941 in Springfield, Illinois.
After attending school in Springfield, Tim joined the Army and served our great nation. He married Barbara Bates on March 30, 1963 and they were blessed with 5 children. Tim was an Ironworker most of his life and worked as a State of Illinois employee for the last decade or so.
Paul loved riding motorcycles. He enjoyed working on all things mechanical. He received his pilots’ license when his children were small and enjoyed taking them up in the air with him. He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing with his family. Many times, they would gather at Curtis and Irenes’ house to play and sing together. He loved Jesus and prayed for his family daily. He enjoyed long road trips in which he and his children would sing songs to while away the time. You would never hear “are we there yet?” from anyone in that vehicle!
Preceding Paul in death are his brothers Edward Duffey of Fairdealing, MO, Patrick Duffey of Springfield, IL, and a young sister, Lena May. Surviving siblings are Richard Duffey of Divernon, IL (sister-in-law Norma Jean Conaway of Springfield, IL), Melinda McCulloch (husband, Doug) of Sequin, TX and James Bolin of Springfield, IL.
Paul leaves behind his wife, Barbara of 57 years, his 5 children, Paul “Timmy” Matthew Duffey II of Riverton, IL, Roy Curtis Duffey (wife, Lisa) of Springfield, IL, Trinity Lynn Flowers (husband, Robert) of Virden, IL, Ben Patrick Duffey (wife, Penny) of Riverton, IL and David Lee Duffey (wife, Christina) of Springfield, IL. He also leaves 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Paul “Tim” was known to show kindness to all people, regardless of their circumstances. He will be deeply missed by his family and loved ones.
