Ernest R Mayberry

Ernest R. Mayberry, 72, of Springfield passed away on Thursday January 12, 2023 at Memorial Medical Center.

Ernest was born in Springfield on September 24, 1950 and is the son of Ray and Bernice (Tippett) Mayberry. He married Judith (Hobbs) Mayberry and she preceded him in death in 2000.

He was also preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sherry (Mayberry) Freeman.

Ernest is survived by his sons, John Mayberry and William Mayberry; daughter in law, Amy Mayberry; granddaughters, Mikayla Mayberry and Morgan Mayberry as well as several nieces and nephews.

He lived in Springfield, IL all of his life and was proud of it. Ernest graduated from Lanphier High School and went to work with his dad at Butternut Bread. He held various positions and jobs. He was the Manager of Ace Hardware on Wabash and then on Walnut. After his retirement, he enjoyed working at the fairgrounds for the State Fair and horse shows. Ernest was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Visitation will be held on Monday January 23, 2023 at Ellinger-Kunz and Park Funeral Home, 530 North 5th St. Springfield, IL 62702 from 5:00pm-7:00pm. A Celebration of life will be held the next morning, January 24, at the funeral home. The Celebration of Life will begin at 11:00am. Inurnment will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery following the services.
