Genevieve M. Carey, 72, of Illiopolis, died on Thursday, October 17, 2019 at her home.
Genevieve was born on February 8, 1947 in Taylorville, the daughter of Walter and Martha (Watson) Blackwell. She married Roy Carey on June 5, 1964 in Mechanicsburg; he preceded her in death in 2006.
Genevieve worked for the Postal Service and retired as Post Master after several years. She was a member of the Illiopolis Christian Church where she served on the church board. She also served on the Riverside Cemetery Board. She enjoyed taking care of her great-grandchildren, camping and fishing.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; one son, Ricky Carey; and one brother, Ronnie Blackwell.
She is survived by her daughter, Janet (Billy) Snyder; son, Rex Carey; grandsons, Bryan Smith and Kevin Bradley (Emily) Smith; two great-grandchildren, Kipton and Kylar Smith; one sister; Linda (Jerry) Dickison; and her beloved dog Smokey.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at the Illiopolis Christian Church with Reverend Jerry Dickison officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery.
