Walter “Ray” Hennings, 66, of Springfield, passed away peacefully on Monday, December 25, 2017 at St. John’s Hospital surrounded by his family.
Ray was born on July 3, 1951 in Litchfield the son of Herman Ray Hennings Jr. and Lois Guthrie. He married Kathleen McCandless on April 10, 1985 in Springfield.
Ray was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He worked as a welder for Certified Tank and Equipment. He enjoyed fishing, watching football, NASCAR and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears fan. He loved his wife and never met a stranger.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Hennings of Springfield; daughter, Amy (Mondell Johnson) Hennings of Springfield; sons, Walter (Kori Dahlke) Hennings of WI, Tim McCandless of Springfield, Jason (Nicole Scroggins) McCandless of Springfield and John (Missy) Hennings of Beardstown; brother, David Hennings of Springfield; sister, Pamela (Tony Cole) Hennings Chandler of Springfield; several grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. until the time of the funeral service at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday December 30, 2017 at Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home with Reverend Larry Hanson officiating. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 at Camp Butler National Cemetery where the Inter-Veterans Burial Detail will conduct honors.
