Roberta Archer, 89, of Edinburg, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2018 at St. John’s Hospital.
Roberta was born on January 29, 1929, in Springfield, the daughter of Craig and Gertrude (Noble) Smith. She married Wayne Archer on February 3, 1951.
She was a 1951 graduate of University of Illinois, Champaign and a member of 4H House, a cooperative sorority. She also was part of the first class to graduate with a Master’s Degree from then Sangamon State University. She had a varied career, as a home advisor in Menard County, a kindergarten teacher at Bullpit and later Jr. High in Edinburg. She also worked for the state Agriculture Department where she ran and organized a program to set up Farmers Markets throughout the state. She was also a Realtor for 20 years and at the age of 80 started her own business, Antiques Etc with her son, Craig. Roberta was a member of Calvary Temple Church, past president of the Illinois Home Economics Association, and a 4-H leader for 20 years. Roberta loved quilting, sewing, gardening and reading.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is s survived by her husband, Wayne; son, Craig Archer; daughter, Charlyn (Brad) Ware; daughter-in-law, Marlene; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday April 6, 2018 at Wilson Park Funeral Home in Rochester with Reverend Paul Rose officiating. Burial will follow at Rochester Cemetery
Memorial contributions may be made to the Edinburg Rescue Squad or Calvary Temple Church in Springfield.
