I met Myrtle on my first day of going into the 5th grade at a new school. Of course I didn't know anyone and I was a pretty shy person at age 10. When the teacher announced "recess" time, Myrtle asked me if I wanted to go to recess with her. We had a fun time swinging on the poles on the playground. From that point on she was my best friend through grade school and high school. When we were in the 7th grade, our school was having a talent contest. I knew a little about tap dancing, and together we worked out a performance of tap and singing to "Singing In The Rain." We won 2nd prize, which was $3.00. I remember sitting on her front porch swing trading and reading a lot of comic books. She also taught me a little bit on playing the piano. I remember us once going to a fright movie titled "The House of Wax" and when we came out, it was dark. We were so scared and ran all the way home in the middle of the street.
I always felt such affection and acceptance from Myrtle, and I will never forget her and the good times, fun, and togetherness we had during those school days while growing up. My husband, Bill, and I send our sincere sympathy to all her family. God Bless Myrtle.

Was so very sad to find this out. My condolences to Bob, Tony and the rest of her family. I had hoped to see her again soon!
In several ways, Myrtle changed my life. She started with having me do mundane library tasks (shelving!) and then we progressed to interlibrary loan via dial-up connections decades ago. Literature was referenced on CD's, and lit searches were tedious.
She was at times "crusty" with me, but overall I became very fond of her. I caught her passion for finding information and being a librarian, which I have never lost. I treasure her influence; to be the recipient of that smile was like being in the "circle of trust".
Thanks for trusting me Myrtle; I will always remember you.
Godspeed.

I worked with Myrtle for several years at Memorial. She was so knowledgeable and conscientious when managing the library. So sorry to hear of her passing.
