Myrtle Henrietta Smarjesse, 76, of Springfield, passed away on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Memorial Medical Center.

Myrtle was born September 10, 1940 in Springfield, the daughter of Lonie and Frieda Gehrman Gough.  She married Robert Smarjesse October 21, 1961 in Malibu, CA.

Myrtle opened the library at Memorial Medical Center in 1968 and continued as the medical librarian for 31 years.  She was a member of the DAV Auxiliary, and avid St. Louis Cardinal fan since childhood and enjoyed fishing especially with her grandchildren.  Myrtle loved attending the State Fair every year to watch the horse races and listen to Elvis impersonators while dancing with the love her life.  Most of all she truly loved spending time with her family singing and playing games that made us all laugh.  She can never be replaced and will be sadly missed by all who knew her especially her family and loving husband of almost 56 years.

She preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Jacqueline Howard; and one brother, Lonie Gough.

She is survived by her husband Robert “Bob” Smarjesse of Springfield; three children, Tony (Debbie) Smarjesse of Springfield, Teri (Joe) Mulvey of Rochester and Tami (Alan) Savage of Plainfield; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Myra (Bob) Crowe of Placentia, CA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 12, 2017 at Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home with Reverend Larry Hanson officiating.  Burial will follow at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
