Joseph "Joe" Guy Ferguson

Joseph “Joe” Guy Ferguson Jr., 66, of Springfield, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2018 at St. John’s Hospital ER.

Joe was born on February 11, 1951 in Springfield the son of Joseph Guy Ferguson Sr. and Bernice Scott.  He married Janet Whannel on January 20, 1973.

He worked as an operating engineer with SIU School of Medicine.  He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 965 for over 20 years.  Joe enjoyed hunting, shooting, cars and motorcycles.  He enjoyed playing sports when he was young, loved spending time with his family, dogs and snickers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Samee Lu Tannehill; mother-in-law, Theresa E. Whalen; and brother-in-law, Bob Whannel.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Ferguson; brother, William (Donna) Ferguson of Chatham; brother-in-law, George Tannehill of Springfield; sisters-in-law, Linda DeVries of Mt. Olive and Linda Whannel of Brawley, CA; and, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Ellinger-Kunz & Park Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the funeral home with Reverend Scott Moore officiating.  Burial will follow at Mechanicsburg Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Protective League or the Ronald McDonald House.
