Welcome to the memorial page for

John Sundquist

September 13, 1947 ~ June 4, 2017 (age 69) 69 Years Old

John Sundquist died peacefully on Sunday evening, June 4, at Mosaic Rehab Center. The cause of death was lung cancer.

John (“Jack”) Sundquist was born September 13, 1947. He was the only son among three daughters of John and Ellen Sundquist. The family spent almost twenty happy years in Monmouth, Illinois. Jack often recalled the golden years he experienced there even as he was building golden years of his own in Houston, Texas, with his furniture design and manufacturing business, HRS.

The company grew to such a success that he opened up a showroom in Beverly Hills, CA, in 1998. There, he sold lamps and tables to Hollywood films for their sets and to hotels all over the world, from Las Vegas to Hong Kong.

Wherever he went, Jack never lost his sensitive nature or his sympathy for those in need. Most of all, he never lost that unique sense of humor that could find a laugh at the most surprising, sometimes even tragic, times.

We are all grief-stricken that he is gone and will forever miss his ray of light in our lives, but we are also pretty sure that he is up there right now giving God a big, loving belly laugh.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his sisters, Judy Short of Ocala, FL, Nancy Sundquist of Culver City, CA, and Sally Sundquist of Springfield, IL; nieces and nephews, Kristen Short of Jackson, MS, Jennifer Short of Atlanta, GA, Kevin Short of Palatine, IL, Karyn Hadley of Pleasant Plains, IL, Jack Pierson of St. Louis, MO, and Jason Pierson of Sacramento, CA, as well as eight great nieces and nephews.

Cremation was accorded and private family services were held.
