Our family wanted to express their sincere condolences in this your time of sorrow. We found this verse encouraging during our time of loss. "Praised be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our trials so that we may be able to comfort others in any sort of trial with the comfort that we receive from God." 2 Corinthians 1:3,4. At John 5:28,29 Jesus spoke about the hope of the resurrection. You are in our thoughts as well.

To the Pickrell Family:

I worked with John many years at Kansas State University. I will always remember the wonderful conversations that we had. I know that he had a real heart for teaching. We have missed and will continue to miss John's presence. I can still "see" John walking through our parking lot and his stopping to talk.

John and I are both University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine graduates. He had great pride in his roots and his family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

John was in the senior class when I began a teaching career at Tri City High School In 1958. He was without a doubt a very intelligent student. In fact that senior class had a number of sharp students. I am sure John would remember the time he received an A minus on a test. John questioned me to determine why and what he could do better to get an A. I told him he would have work harder. It was only to challenge him and he responded well. That senior class kept me on my toes and John was at the top. So sorry to hear of his passing. His family will certainly miss him.

My deepest sympathy to each of you for your loss. Deep sorrow fills your hearts at this time. May you find comfort and strength in Almighty God. He is the giver of life. It saddened him when we shed tears of sorrow. Through his Word he gives us comfort and hope for those who have fallen asleep in death.
