Ethel Mae Spann, 95, of Springfield, passed away at 4:14 p.m. on Sunday, October 1, 2017 at Memorial Hospice at Heritage Health surrounded by her family.

Ethel was born on July 28, 1922 in Lake Fork, IL the daughter of Lawrence and Martha Munyon Wilham.  She married Benjamin Spann in 1943; he preceded her in death in 1966.

She retired from the Department of Transportation and was a member of Elm Street Christian Church.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; son, Alan Spann; and two sisters, Louise Baumhardt and Norma Stewart.

She is survived by daughter, Betty Jo Williams; son, John (Janis) Spann; brother, Larry (Selma) Wilham; grandsons, Troy and Gary Pier, Todd (Jamie) Spann and Doug Williams; granddaughter, Amy (Daniel) O’Conner; ten great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Oak Ridge Cemetery.  Visitation will follow from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 12:00 noon on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Elm Street Christian Church with Pastor’s John Sears and Mike Pabarcus officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to Elm Street Christian Church.
